That is a very complex question to answer and I’m sure there are many unknowns still as to how the brain works. All I know of is there is a chemical called serotonin which is released and activates certain parts of the brain which make you feel good. There are probably other chemicals, such as hormones, which influence how you feel.

People aren’t too sure what exactly happens when we are happy. But we know the level of neurotransmitters (chemical messenger) in the brain play an important role in mood. Although some experiments have linked higher levels of serotonin and dopamine in people who are happy, there is not a consensus. We just don’t know enough about the brain.

When you are having a good time and feel happy parts of the brain that respond to pleasure release neurotransmitters particullay dopamine and seretonin.

It’s these chemical messengers that are effected by drugs and alcohol. Its thought these neurotransmitters and their receptors are also involved in diseases such as Parkinson’s.
