Heart attacks can be caused for many reasons. The most common being atherosclerosis. This is when fat builds up in your blood vessels.
This build up of fat can get so big it blocks your vessels and stop blood getting to important organs such as the heart. The fat in your vessels can also break off and cause a clot which blocks smaller blood vessels downstream.
Lack of blood causes your cells to die as they need it to keep them healthy by giving them nutrients and taking away waste products.

People can cause their arteries to fill up with fat at a young age by eating a bad diet and not doing any exercise!

Ana is right -heart attacks in young people occur for the same reasons as heart attacks in older people – because of blockages in the blood vessels that are directly connected to the heart. The vessels become blocked when there is a build up of cholesterol inside them.

Someone is at increased risk of cholesterol build-up if they have an unhealthy diet, are obese, if they smoke, and there are also some genes that increase the risk of having a heart attack when you are young. However, young people can also have heart attacks for other reasons for example electrocution, drug abuse or undiagnosed diseases that affect the heart.

An Aneurysm can be another trigger for a heart attack. An aneurysm is a weakening in a blood vessel wall. in the heart aneurysms can occur in the coronary arteries. the weakening in the vessel will at some point no longer be able to take the pressure of the blood running through it and the vessel will burst. if a coronary aneurysm burst blood would no loner flow to the heart and the heart would stop resulting in a heart attack.
