Most cancers kill when they spread around the body (this is called metastasis). If we can work out how this occurs we can try and stop it.This would mean lots of cancers such as breast or skin cancer would no longer be deadly.
I put cancer cells under pressure and force them to adapt and change. I stain them different colours such as red and green so I can watch them move around. I’m trying to work out which pressures force them to move and why.

I’m either in the lab doing an experiment or on my computer working out what it shows me!

I usually spend my morning in the lab doing my experiments and the afternoons sorting through the data.
In my spare time I read journals and articles about the exciting new discoveries in my field.
I also teach students helping them in practical classes and marking their work.
