There is a big link between diet and some types of cancer so yes in theory eating too many sweets could increase your risk of cancer.

For example, we know that risk of breast cancer is increased if your are obese or overweight so eating loads of sweets and becoming obese would increase your risk of breast cancer.

Eating lots of sweets won’t give you cancer directly but it will increase your risk of diabetes which is shown to increase your risk of certain cancers. There’s also a strong link between bad diets and cancer.

Well obesity is known to be a risk factor for many types of cancer, so if you eat so many sweets it makes you obese then it may well increase your risk of developing cancer.

There are lots of reasons not too eat too many sweets that are more likely than getting cancer – all of your body is put under stress if you become overweight and you become much more likely to have lots of health problems, and even if you stay within a healthy weight think of what that sugar is doing to your poor teeth!

As long as you stay healthy overall by eating a varied diet and getting a decent amount of exercise having some sweets won’t cause you any harm.
