I first worked as a scientist when I was 18. I then went to University before doing a PhD – totalling about 6/7 years of research

It depends how you measure it. I only officially got my job as a full-time scientist (instead of being a student) a couple of months ago, and that was the first time I felt like a ‘proper scientist’, but I went to Uni in 2005 and have been working in a lab for 5 years.
I have always been interested in how and why things work though, so I think I’ve always been a bit of a scientist at heart!
