      Hi taylor1260

If a mole changes colour or shape it doesn’t not necessarily mean it is cancer. However it is always best to get any moles that do change shape or colour check by the GP so that if the change does look cancerous it can be caught early.

Most birthmarks, do not carry a risk of developing into cancer. there is a rare birth mark caled a congenital melanocytic nevus can develop into a melanoma. Another birth mark called an epidermal nevi( birth mark in the upper most layer of the skin) can be at risk of developing into a basal cell carcinoma or BCC. A BCC is not as serious as a melanoma and can be removed easily. As with a mole if there’s any change its always best to get it looked at sooner rather than later!!
