The best thing about research is when you make a discovery for the first time. For that moment you are the only person in history that has seen that particular result.

The most interesting part is learning new things. Research challenges you all the time and you are always finding out new things about science.

I am not a research scientist. But research is so important because new techniques and drugs that are developed change how we diagnose cancer in hospital laboratories.

The most interesting thing about being a biomedical scientist is specimen dissection we get all different body parts every day!

My favourite thing about my research is that it’s up to me!
It’s up to me to work out what’s going on and whether it’s worth investigating. Even if your results show somethings not worked that’s important too as you can let people know. They can either help improve your experiment or you stop others wasting their time doing something that won’t work.

I totally agree with the others about how rewarding research is, but another fun thing to do is travel!

A couple of times a year I get to go and meet other scientists at conferences where people present their work, either giving talks or showing some of their results on posters and we all get to share ideas and inspire one another. Scientific conferences have lead to some incredible discoveries, and best of all you get to travel to new places (research institutes around the world take it in turns to be the host).
