Everybody can get cancer but some people are at much higher risk than others. For example, women like Angelina Jolie who carry a genetic mutation to a gene called BRCA are at much higher risk of breast and ovarian cancer than women who don’t have the mutation.

The other factors that put you at risk include lifestyle and environmental factors such as smoking, exercise and what you eat.

There does also seem to be a relationship between what your racial background is and the type of breast cancer you are most at risk of getting. For example, African women are more likely to get a type of breast cancer called ‘Triple Negative Breast Cancer’ than any other types of breast cancer. We also know that certain groups of Jewish people are more likely to carry the mutation to BRCA that Angelina Jolie has so are more at risk than other people.

For most cancers, the biggest risk factor is age. The older you get the more likely you are to develop cancer as your cells begin to deteriorate and are more likely to pick up cancer causing mutations.

anyone can get cancer there are a number of risk factors, age, genetics, lifestyle and environment. Its also not just a disease that old people get it can affect people of all ages. I wont cover breast cancer as Matthew has already mentioned it. The incidence of stomach cancer tends to be higher in Japanese people, this is because they have a diet high in salt. there are other cancers that that affect certain age groups for instance hodgkins lymphoma ( cancer of cells in a lymph node) tends to affect men and women in their early twenties to early thirties. Karposis sarcoma cancer usually only develops in people with weakened immune systems such as those with HIV/Aids.

As far as I know, cancers are not linked to ethnicity. But an increased risk of cancers can be inherited from your parents. Life style (food, drink, smoking, exercise) can alter the risk of cancers but cancers can occur in healthy people as it can happen at random.
