Cancer is actually more common in men – in 2010 men were 14% more likely to be diagnosed with cancer than women. Comparing the number of people diagnosed – in 2010 50.5% of all people diagnosed were men compared to 49.5% women. However, there are many more women in the population (because slightly more women are born and women liver longer on average), so actually the percentage of all men getting cancer is quite a lot higher than women.

The reasons for this aren’t fully understood but could be because of lifestyle factors, for example men might drink and smoke more than women leading to a higher risk of getting cancer.
